First year chapter takes huge state win

Updated: May 18, 2018

This year, the Stone Ridge Christian FFA chapter began. With a small school population and an even smaller chapter of only 44 members, they knew they would have to make a difference in order to be recognized. In pursuit of ways to do this, the cahpter stumbled upon the Hall of Chapters competition. Hall of Chapters is a way for chapters create a 10x10 booth depicting California Agriculture and the California FFA during the State Leadership Conference's career show.

SRC decided to enter a booth, showcasing not only 90 years of FFA, from 1928-2018, but the national commodities that are grown 99% in California. The task of creating a state winning booth seems easy at first, but gradually it becomes daunting. After tons of hours of building, painting, emailing, ordering, creating, typing, framing, researching, and planning, the barn and its crew was finally off to Anaheim.

Groups of members flocked to their booth during the first day's career show, and on judging day, the judges seemed impressed by the details of the rustic barn. Committee chairs Jordan Hooker and Isabella Alexander felt confident in themselves, and sure enough, later Monday night Stone Ridge Christian FFA was declared the 2017-2018 Hall of Chapters winner for California.

Stone Ridge is now headed to Indianapolis in October! The Hall of States competition, hosting booths from all over the country at the 91st National Convention in Indianapolis, with over 70,000 attendees, is going to be huge! "We have a lot to prepare for, and a lot of money to raise. If you're interested in helping at all, please contact us today." Co-chair Isabella Alexander says. The SRC FFA chapter has done so much in a year, and it will be an amazing experience in Indianapolis no matter what.

We are looking at fundraising about $15,000, and we can't do it alone. If you're interested in helping our chapter represent California at the national level, please contact us today. California has only ever won the Hall of States convention one time, and we want to change that!
